THE ECONOMY
We can achieve fiscal responsibility, by spending our tax dollars smarter. Because of the Bush fiscal policies, supported by Rodney Frelinghuysen trillions of our tax dollars are being spent to fund the Iraq war, and tax breaks for the millionaire and billionaire friends of this Administration. They have spent more money than we actually have, by borrowing against future tax dollars and leaving our children and grandchildren to pay the bill.
This out of control spending has left the states, including New Jersey, without enough funds. Consequently, our property taxes have soared, and the state has no choice but to seek more ways to raise revenue at our expense. With an end to the war and an end to the tax breaks for the super wealthy, we can put our tax dollars back to work here at home for the benefit of the people of our state and our district.
As your representative, I will make sure our tax dollars are spent on homeland security, lowering property taxes, providing tuition, tax credits, strengthening Social Security and Medicare, and cleaning up toxic Superfund sites that threaten our health. Spending our tax dollars where it benefits us most.
It’s just common sense!
THE IRAQ WAR
We need to end the war and bring our troops and money home.
The Iraq War which was supposed to curtail terrorism and help the Iraqi people has done neither. It has deteriorated into a civil war with our troops caught in the middle. And there is no end in sight.
We have spent 1/2 trillion of our tax dollars on the war so far. Much of it has gone for corporate profiteering, while our over-worked, under-paid troops do not have proper armor or reinforced tanks. Rodney Frelinghuysen continues to support funding for Bush’s failed war without accountability for how the money is being spent. And we are no safer!
Here, in New Jersey we are particularly vulnerable. The best way to keep us safe is to spend on homeland security. As your Representative, I will fight to secure our international airport, bridges, tunnels, ports, oil refineries, nuclear power plants, and our water supply. I will also fight for health care and all the benefits that those who served our country deserve.
Ending the war, bringing our troops and money home.
It’s just common sense!
HEALTHCARE
We can have affordable health care for every American.
Universal Health Care: For those of us with health insurance, our premiums continue to rise each year while less of our health care needs are covered. Currently, 47 Million Americans have no health coverage, many of them children. Rodney Frelinghuysen voted against a bill which would have provided health coverage for every American child.
Single payer System: We have the best doctors and medicine in the world, but we have the most costly and least efficient health care delivery system of any industrialized nation.
Currently, 25% of the cost of health care goes toward administrative costs. With a single payer system, we can reduce administrative costs to about 3%. With that cost savings, we can provide affordable health care for every man woman and child in this country, and actually have money left over.
Affordable health coverage for every American, for less than we pay now. It’s just common sense!
ENERGY and ENVIRONMENT
We can have safe, clean renewable energy.
Exxon made a record $11 billion dollar profit last quarter while gasoline and heating costs for Americans skyrocketed. And our tax dollars still subsidize the oil industry. Why?
As your Representative I will fight to end taxpayer subsidies for big oil. I will support a tax on billion dollar windfall profits, and use that money toward funding development of clean safe renewable energy sources.
Experts say this will create millions of green collar jobs, decrease our dependence on foreign oil, and minimize greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to global warming. Safe, clean energy, jobs, less dependence on foreign oil.
It’s just common sense!
BALANCED BUDGET AMMENDMENT
Why do we need a Federal Balanced Budget Amendment?
Compare the federal government’s budget to your own. Ordinary Americans have to budget their expenses to match their household income. For most of us that still means prioritizing and making tough choices. And many of us comparison shop and clip coupons to stretch our dollars.
Blank Check:
But suppose that you were given a blank check. You could buy whatever you wanted, and at the end of the month, the bill would be paid with other peoples’ money. You would have no incentive to prioritize or comparison shop in that situation.
Without a balanced budget amendment, the federal government has a blank check .They have no incentive to prioritize or comparison shop. They get to spend way beyond what is necessary and then present you, the taxpayer, with the bill. For the federal government, that translates into no- bid contracts, and no accountability, costing us billions. The result is ever higher taxes, and huge debt which our children and grandchildren will have to pay.
If the federal government had to balance the budget, it would put an end to deficit spending and the waste, fraud and abuse that provides windfall profits to large corporations and government cronies at the expense of the American taxpayer. A federal balanced budget.
It’s just common sense!
