About Ellen As an attorney, business woman and mother, Ellen Greenberg is running for Congress because she is committed to helping preserve our Constitutional rights, and return the guiding principles of accountability, trust, and common sense to our government. Over the years Ellen has been a passionate advocate for environmental protection, women’s health and equal rights, tirelessly donating her time to causes she believes in. She has actively volunteered on numerous presidential and local political campaigns. She resides in Mendham Township with her husband Rob, who is Vice President of Brand Marketing for Panasonic. Originally from New York, the couple chose New Jersey in 1974 as the ideal place to make their home and raise their two children. Ellen approaches her candidacy with a seasoned perspective on the events that have shaped our national policy and a deep understanding of the issues that affect New Jersey and the people of our district. After earning a BA in Political Science, Ellen went on to graduate from Brooklyn Law School where she was co-editor of the Environmental Newsletter. She has been in private practice in the district since 1988. Ellen’s professional background has made her a skilled negotiator, adept at sorting through complex issues, and she has been a convincing and effective advocate on behalf of her clients. These same skills will make her an effective legislator in congress and a powerful advocate on behalf of her constituents. Having handled a large number of bankruptcy cases, Ellen has witnessed first-hand the devastating affects of the failed Bush economic policies. And she points out that even affluent Americans are feeling the effects of this economic downturn as they see the equity in their homes, stock portfolios and retirement accounts evaporate. Ellen’s parents, children of the depression instilled in her the values of self-reliance, perseverance and hard work. During World War II, her mother worked in support of the war effort. Her father, a decorated air force sergeant who was wounded in action, came home to an America that provided for its veterans. Ellen is personally dedicated to protecting those who serve our country by making sure our soldiers are not sent into combat without clear evidence of necessity, and that they receive the training and armor they need. She is committed to honoring those who have served by insuring our veterans get the health care, disability benefits and employment opportunities they have earned. Ellen recognizes that the issues confronting us don't exist in separate silos, and that our domestic and foreign policies are interconnected. She believes that our tax dollars must be focused where they can have the maximum impact at home, and not wasted on an ill-conceived war abroad. She believes that most every American has the same goals; employment, affordable health care, a home, college, enduring social security and Medicare, clean air and water, and a safe country for our children to grow up in; the things that Americans once took for granted. Ellen knows that the people of her district have a clear and meaningful choice to make this November. She is confident that they will reject Bush’s failed policies and those who supported them, and make the choice instead to vote for a Representative who will fight to bring both our troops and our money back home where they belong. |
